Interruption to Supply of Typhoid and Hepatitis A/Typhoid Vaccines (Update)

In January 2012, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) announced an interruption to the supply of Typherix® (Vi polysaccharide typhoid vaccine) and Hepatyrix® (hepatitis A and typhoid combined).

This was due to a delay in the availability of a new manufacturing facility and GSK is prioritising the production of essential childhood vaccines as required by WHO.

Currently:

Typherix® - is now out of stock until spring 2014.

Hepatyrix® - is presently out of stock, however, a delayed supply is expected to be available to order towards the end of 2012. Stock is likely to be depleted early in 2013, until spring 2014.

Havirx Monodose® and Havrix Junior Monodose® - are in supply although demand is high.

Ongoing Vaccine Supplies

Typhim Vi® (Vi polysaccharide typhoid vaccine) - Due to increased demand, Sanofi Pasteur MSD has taken steps to manage stock supplies:

  • All Vaccine standing order customers are being supplied as normal.
  • Other customers can still order directly but there is a cap on the number of doses supplied per month.
  • Currently supplies are 10 packs not singles.
  • Wholesalers are the only customers not being supplied at present.

Avaxim® (hepatitis A vaccine) Sanofi Pasteur MSD are now only providing Avaxim® to Vaccine standing order customers and hope to return to normal supply in November 2012.

Currently there are no constraints to supply of Sanofi Pasteur MSD hepatitis A vaccine product: Vaqta Paediatric®.
