Hepatitis A Vaccine Dose Sparing Recommendations (Update)

31 July 2017

Constraints to the supply of adult and paediatric hepatitis A containing vaccines continue. Practitioners are reminded that remaining stocks of vaccines should be carefully managed to ensure that age appropriate monovalent vaccines are available for:

  • Post-exposure prophylaxis.
  • Travellers who are immunocompromised, aged > 60 years or have chronic liver disease.
  • Those undertaking high risk travel.

Dose sparing measures and the off-label use of combination/non-age appropriate hepatitis A vaccines have been produced by PHE for both adult and child travellers:

Guidance to help public health professionals manage hepatitis A infections and recommendations for pre-exposure immunisation

TRAVAX has produced FAQs designed to answer common queries we are receiving from practitioners regarding the dose sparing options. We will continue to add to these as the situation evolves and further advice is generated, so please visit the FAQ section regularly.
