Cholera in Zimbabwe

08 July 2011

Three separate cholera outbreaks have been reported from the provinces of Matabeleland, Masvingo and Manicaland in Zimbabwe. In Matabeleland, more than 200 cases were recorded in the city of Bulawayo in the last month. In Masvingo province , 194 cases of cholera have been treated in hospital. It is thought that the infection has been imported from Manicaland where the outbreak began.

Advice for Travellers

Travellers to outbreak areas who will be mixing closely with the local population and cannot ensure safe drinking water can be immunised against cholera. A high standard of food, water and personal hygiene must also be maintained.
