Country Specific Risk of Coronavirus (COVID-19) (Update 26)

28 August 2020

The coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak continues to evolve. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) currently advises British nationals against 'all but essential' travel, exempting some countries that no longer pose an unacceptably high risk for British travellers against coronavirus (COVID-19). This advice is being kept under constant review and may change at short notice.

TRAVAX country pages now include a COVID-19 country specific risk-rating to inform if the country has been identified as high, moderate or low risk for exposure to coronavirus (COVID-19) in that country for UK travellers based on the latest UK public health assessment. This information can be found in the 'Emerging Health Risks' section of every country page.

The risk-rating is reviewed regularly by the UK public health bodies and can change at short notice as the global spread of COVID-19 evolves. All travellers are therefore advised to follow sensible precautions and consider the following sources of information below:

Before planning any international travel:

  • Check the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) website for country specific Travel Advisory Notices regarding travel and entry restrictions, and review the local medical care available at your destination.
  • Check the COVID-19 risk-rating at the destination, this will be listed in the ‘'Emerging Health Risks'’ section of every country page.
  • Travel insurance is essential: for further information, see the Travel Insurance page.
  • Be aware of how to reduce the risk of exposure to coronavirus (COVID-19), before during and after travel. Further information is available on our sister website fitfortravel COVID-19 Health Considerations for Travel page.

GOV.UK quarantine rules:

Please note that UK quarantine rules can change at short notice.

  • Prior to booking travel, travellers should check the GOV.UK Border Control website regarding the requirement for self-isolation (quarantine) rules upon return to the UK.
  • Travellers should regularly check GOV.UK website during their trip and just before their return journey to the UK as the rules may have changed.
