Polio in Israel

An outbreak of polio in Israel remains under investigation. The World Health Organization reports that 1 case and 6 asymptomatic infections have been recorded. A further 2 probable infections are being investigated.

Advice for Travellers

Poliomyelitis is spread mainly through person to person contact via the faecal-oral route.

  • Travellers should be offered a booster dose of poliomyelitis vaccine if it has been more than 10 years since their last dose.
