Hotel Quarantine; Border Control Measures for Travellers Arriving in the UK

To stop the spread of potentially harmful variants of coronavirus (COVID-19), stricter measures have been implemented for travellers arriving in the UK.

From 15th February 2021 onwards, travellers who have visited or transited through a country where travel to the UK is banned in the last 10 days must:

  • quarantine for 10 days in a managed quarantine hotel
  • take a coronavirus (COVID-19) test on day 2 and day 8 of quarantining
  • follow the national lockdown rules for the UK 4 nations country they arrive in

Advice for Travellers

Before making travel plans, travellers should consider if their journey is essential and legally permitted.

Prior to permitted travel they should check all of the following, and continue to check these during their trip as guidance may change at short notice:

  • The risk of exposure to coronavirus (COVID-19) at their destination
  • Requirements for COVID testing at their destination prior to return
  • Self-isolation rules on return to the UK
  • Travel Insurance
