TRAVAX Telephone Advice Line

04 November 2011

The TRAVAX telephone advice line is a service of the Travel and International Health Team at Health Protection Scotland. It provides expert advice to healthcare professionals to assist them with the management of travellers. It does not give out travel health advice to the general public.

Recently, we have had a number of calls from members of the public requesting advice on the vaccination and antimalarial requirements for a planned trip. Most of these callers had been given our number by a high street pharmacy or by their GP or Practice nurse.

This is inappropriate and does a disservice to the caller as they will not be given the information they are looking for. We will advise members of the public to contact their GP, Practice Nurse or Travel Clinic and refer them to the fitfortravel website for further information.

We would be grateful if TRAVAX users would refrain from giving the TRAVAX telephone advice line number to members of the public.
