The British Thoracic Society (BTS) Air Travel Working Group, has published updated recommendations for managing passengers with respiratory disease who are planning air travel. The guidelines were published in Thorax in September 2011, and can be downloaded from the BTS website.
The guidelines are a useful resource for clinicians who advise travellers and topics include: contraindications to air travel, pre-flight assessment, travelling with oxygen, disease specific recommendations and patient information.
