Amendment to South African Yellow Fever Certificate Requirements

24 August 2011

The Department of Health in South Africa has clarified their yellow fever certificate requirements.

They have confirmed that, as of 1st October 2011, authorities will require a yellow fever certificate from all travellers from Zambia, unless in possession of a valid waiver certificate. Travellers transiting/arriving from Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Sao Tome and Principe, Somalia, and Tanzania to South Africa will also be asked for a yellow fever vaccination certificate. This includes transiting passengers regardless of the amount of time spent at the airport.

Travellers to South Africa who will transit or visit other African countries en route should be aware of the yellow fever vaccine recommendations/requirements of individual countries before travel.
