Vaccine Supply Update

03 April 2018

The following is an update provided by Public Health England(PHE) on the supply situation for vaccines purchased direct from the manufacturers (e.g. for travel and risk groups):

Diphtheria, Tetanus and Poliomyelitis (inactivated) Vaccine

Sanofi Pasteur: Limited supplies of Revaxis are available. There are likely to be order restrictions in place for travellers. Please contact Sanofi Pasteur for information regarding availability. Sanofi Pasteur Tel: 0148 350 5515.

Hepatitis B

To ensure vaccine availability for those at highest and most immediate risk of exposure to hepatitis B, all hepatitis B containing monovalent and bivalent (HepA/HepB) vaccines are currently under supply management processes. The update specific to travellers was published by PHE in November 2017 and can be accessed alongside other associated guidance here

In Scotland a mechanism is in place to allow for exceptional orders if there is an urgent and immediate need for an individual following a thorough risk assessment, this is through the local NHS Board Vaccine Holding Centre

Hep B Adult:

  • GSK: Engerix B PFS singles are available.
  • GSK: Engerix B PFS packs of 10 are available.
  • GSK: Very limited supplies of Engerix B vials are available.
  • GSK: Fendrix is available.
  • MSD: Limited supplies of HBVAXPRO 10μg are available. Supplies are expected to be restricted throughout 2018.
  • MSD: Limited supplies of HBVAXPRO 40μg are available. Supplies are expected to be restricted throughout 2018.

Hep B Paediatric:

  • GSK: Engerix B Paediatric singles are available.
  • MSD: Limited supplies of HBVAXPRO 5μg are available. Supplies are expected to be restricted throughout 2018.

Hepatitis A Vaccine

Hep A Adult:

  • GSK: Supplies of Havrix PFS singles, PFS packs of 10 and vials in singles are available. However, there may not be sufficient stock in each presentation to accommodate demand.
  • Sanofi Pasteur: Avaxim is currently out of stock, limited supplies are expected in May 2018.
  • MSD: VAQTA is currently unavailable and there will be intermittent supplies of during 2018.

Hepatitis A Paediatric:

  • GSK: Havrix Paediatric singles and packs of 10 are currently available.
  • MSD: VAQTA Paediatric is currently available with supplies expected throughout 2018.

Combined Hepatitis A and B

  • GSK: Twinrix Adult and Paediatric presentations are available.
  • GSK: Ambirix is available.

Combined Hepatitis A and Typhoid

  • GSK: GSK is discontinuing Hepatyrix vaccine that has been under constrained supply for several years due to challenges associated with its manufacturing.
  • Sanofi Pasteur: Viatim is currently unavailable, it is likely to become available in May 2018.

Meningitis ACWY Vaccine

  • GSK: Menveo is heavily constrained and supply is anticipated to improve in late 2018.
  • Pfizer: Nimenrix is currently available for private sales and there is no current impact on the National Immunisation Programme.

Typhoid

  • GSK: GSK is discontinuing Typherix vaccine that has been under constrained supply for several years due to challenges associated with its manufacturing.
  • Sanofi Pasteur: Typhim is available to order without restrictions.
  • PaxVax: Vivotif is available.

Rabies

  • GSK: limited supplies of Rabipur are available. Supply is being prioritised to hospitals and GPs for use in notified post exposure cases only.
  • Sanofi Pasteur: Limited supplies of Rabies BP are available. It is likely that there will be order restrictions in place.
