World Malaria Report 2015 Published

The World Malaria Report 2015 has been published today (9 December) by the World Health Organization. This publication is produced annually and assesses malaria trends, highlighting the progress made towards global targets and outlines strategies and difficulties in controlling and eliminating malaria.

It states in the report that 57 out of 106 countries with malaria in 2000 have reported a decline of at least 75% in new malaria cases by 2015. During the same time period, a further 18 countries reported a 50-75% decline in cases.

Malaria deaths are also declining in the following regions: Southeast Asia (85%), the Americas (72%), Western Pacific (65%), Eastern Mediterranean. In the past 15 years, the African region has achieved a 66% reduction in malaria deaths overall with a 71% reduction in children under 5 years.
