Interruption to Supply of Stamaril Yellow Fever Vaccine (Update)

03 October 2013

In August 2013 Sanofi Pasteur MSD experienced an unforeseen delay in the manufacturing of Yellow Fever vaccine (Stamaril® single dose). Further information has become available regarding the supply of Stamaril®.

Sanofi Pasteur MSD has been in discussion with the MHRA, who have agreed to the importation of Stamaril® multi-dose vials. These multi-dose vials have been unaffected by the manufacturing delay. The presentation is a vial containing 10 doses of yellow fever vaccine and a 10 dose vial of solvent, supplied in a box of 10 vials = 100 doses.

It should be noted that this multi-dose presentation is not licensed in the UK and appropriate procedure for the administration of an unlicensed vaccine should be followed.

Stamaril® multi-dose vials will be available towards the end of October 2013. After reconstitution the vaccine must be administered within a 6 hour period. Only those Yellow Fever Vaccination Centres who will be able to use up most of the 10 dose vial within 6 hours of reconstitution should purchase the vaccine.

In addition to the multi-dose preparation available at the end of October, Sanofi Pasteur MSD have a small stock of Stamaril® in single dose vials which they are able to supply from today. For customers requiring Stamaril® in single dose vials, Sanofi Pasteur MSD can supply 3 doses as a 'one off' order. This means that customers will only be able to place an order for 3 single doses during the duration of the shortage or until stocks last.

Once orders for Stamaril® multi-dose vials becomes established, Sanofi Pasteur MSD will publish details of YFVCs with availability of vaccine on their website at: http://www.spmsd.co.uk/
