Hepatitis B - Advice on Prioritising Available Vaccine

24 July 2017

In response to supply constraints of Hepatitis B containing vaccines Public Health England (PHE) have produced temporary recommendations, including dose sparing advice, to preserve adult and paediatric monovalent hepatitis B vaccine stock for those at highest immediate need.

Whilst the advice is not absolute and practitioners are encouraged to apply their own clinical judgement in each individual situation, the tables contained within the PHE document are useful as a guide. In particular:

  • Table 4 (page 9) – detailing pre-exposure options for children and adults.
  • Table 5 (page 10) - detailing dose sparing options for completion of pre-exposure schedules and for boosting.

The guidance can be accessed at Hepatitis B: vaccine recommendations during supply constraints
