Changes to Thailand Malaria Map and Advice

29 September 2016

The malaria advice and map for Thailand has recently been updated. This was considered by the Scottish Malaria Advisory Group (SMAG) after an extensive trawl of the available data was undertaken.

The malarial risk is reduced in some areas such that antimalarial chemoprophylaxis is no longer advised for any travellers, although advice on bite avoidance and prompt diagnosis and treatment is still essential. In some areas close to Cambodian and Myanmar borders, inland areas of Surat Thani province and an area on the southern border with Malaysia, chemoprophylaxis is still advised
