Mental Health and Travel - New Health Information Page

13 November 2015

We would like to make TRAVAX users aware of the addition of a new Health Information page: Mental Health and Travel. The new page can be accessed on TRAVAX via Health Information - General Health Advice. A version for travellers is also available on fitfortravel.

Mental health issues are common and are a leading cause or ill health and repatriation in travellers. Despite this, many healthcare practitioners feel ill equipped to advise on this aspect of travel health.

Some travellers are thought be at higher risk of having mental health problems, such as business travellers. In addition, many factors directly related to travel, such as jet lag, sleep deprivation and language barriers, can cause stress and anxiety and thereby have a negative impact on mental health.

The new page offers some guidance. We also link to IAMAT (International Association for Medical Assistance to Travellers) website, where further advice can be sought and leaflets for travellers that can be downloaded for free.
